Gerd Diet
Knowing GERD Diet Closer! and GERD Treatment
Have you ever experienced an uncomfortable condition of your stomach acid which suddenly rose into the esophagus? Backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus is not only a trigger GERD syndromes, such as increasing the flow of stomach contents into the esophagus or chest pain, regurgitation, burning (heartburn) but also cause injury to the esophagus or esophagitis. Flow through the stomach contents was also reported to cause atypical syndrome (such as asthma reflux) that can disrupt daily activities and difficult to treat.
GERD (Gastroesphageal Reflux Disease) is one type of chronic disease caused by increased gastric acid. GERD symptom complaints have mild to severe.
GERD is a disease caused by lifestyle. The reason is the condition of obesity, alcohol, coffee, sleeping after eating and so forth. Many people do not know what it is GERD, although they actually have been suffering for several years before finally learned that there are simple solutions to relieve their heartburn pain.
Don’t worry because it can be conquered with the treatment of GERD.
GERD can be treated by two ways:
1. Diet and exercise
2. Take the medicine according to doctor’s instructions
Changes in lifestyle such as exercise and diet aims to accelerate the loss of acid from the esophagus and to minimize the increase of gastric acid into the esophagus.
Sports activities such as below have been proven effective in reducing the impact of GERD:
1. Jogging for 30 minutes a day
2. Lose weight
3. Avoid lying down / sleeping for three hours after eating
4. Raise the head position during sleep
Dietary factors are also influential in causing the symptoms of GERD, the food should be avoided if you suffer from GERD are:
1. Eating fatty foods 3 hours before bedtime
2. Eating too fast
3. Drinking alcohol, coffee and soft drinks
4. Spicy foods, chocolate, mint, and citrus fruits
When you come to the doctor, the doctor will usually prescribe two medications for the treatment of GERD:
- Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI)
The drugs included in the PPI groups are omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole and the newest is esomeprazole. This drug works by stopping the production of acid is generated by proton pumps in the stomach wall, resulting in decreased acidity thus reducing heartburn and other GERD symptoms. - H2 Antagonist
Cimetidine, Nizatidine and Ranitidine is a group of drugs that are included in the group Histamine2 (H2)-receptor antagonists. These drugs work by stopping the work of histamine (a chemical produced by the stomach). The existence of the release of histamine produces hydrogen ions, resulting in stomach becomes more acidic. H2-receptor antagonist only partially stopped the production of acid so that the effect is not as good when compared to groups of PPI in GERD treatment.
GERD disease is a chronic and often relapsing despite being treated. As many as 60% of patients will experience recurrence of symptoms after a few months or few years. To overcome the recurrence of GERD symptoms, patients are recommended to consume PPI once a day until it improves GERD symptoms. Given the symptoms of GERD symptoms in almost the same as other gastrointestinal disorders, usually the patient will stop taking his medication when symptoms have improved hull. This makes treatment of GERD often fail. GERD with PPI treatment takes 1-2 months. This aims to control the stomach acid so that created an atmosphere that is conducive to healing that causes irritation of the burning sensation behind the breastbone (heartburn).
